This list swelled up in my red moleskine last night. I love love love to take my cameras along with me on my adventures. Sometimes I find myself in the midst of a blank day, without a predetermined adventure on the schedule, twiddling with a feverish hankering to do the shutterbug. I began to scribble down some little adventures to have on call for these stuck moments, and just like a snowball rolling down the blanketed mountainside, it got bigger and better and before I knew it there were one hundred mini-adventures bursting from the folds in my brain.
The list looked oh-so-tantalizing; each item scribed so invitingly on the milky pages of my moleskine. Each little lens-friendly adventure seemed to be the perfect artist date, à la Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way (a twelve week adventure into the depths of creativity, currently cycling at the Goddess Circle— hello my fellow art-full Goddesses!) My muse alights my shoulder when I’m looking through a viewfinder, and I’d like my muse to stick around more often in this bright, shiny new year.
Cue the drumroll, please.
It’s January of 2011, and I’m about to take my camera on 100 juicy dates. I hope she puts out.
My 2011 challenge—and I so ferociously accept this challenge—is to take my camera on every single one of the hundred dates listed above. Within this year.
You heard it, I’m shoutin’ it out loud, and there’s no turning back now. Here’s my pinky promise.
Let the Hundred Camera Dates of 2011 BEGIN!

Cassie, that is so magnificent!!! Week one has been so utterly inspirational! I’ve been doing amateur photography and take my camera everywhere too but I have recently finished photographing the entire building, mating and birthing ritual of a pair of Cuckoo Shrikes from my balcony! They let their baby fly and have dismantled the nest, hopefully for next year as they mate for life, it was sacred and so special! I also have a bug for bugs and have photographed every visitor to my unit, I get heaps of action up here on the 4th floor! All I need to do is blog it all up. I’m off to check out your list and keep us all updated!

    Goddess sister love,
    Liza xx

Be sure to send a link my way once you’ve got your Cuckoo Shrike photos up! It sounds absolutely fantastical :)

Loved this list, Cassie! I’m no photographer like yourself but I would like to get a little more adventurous with my camera and these places sound enchanting.

Stereo, I think you’d be a fabulous photographer- you’ve got a soul for poetry and it will certainly translate to photographing your environment.

Me too! 100 places in 365 days, that’s only a new photo every 3 days or so. Totally doable, right? :)

Wow, wow, WOW!!!! My dear circle sister this sounds like so much fun! Your list has inspired me to keep my camera with me and have little artist dates of my own! Thanks for sharing

Yay! I can’t wait to see what you uncover, Dionne. By the way- I love your title. “The Tea Priestess” is so full of MAGIC!

I love this list! Most of all I love this: A Hunt for the most fabulous moustache. Golly gosh that’s a beauty!

It reminds me of a game I used to play with myself. It was called the mullet game. I used to find and admire wonderful mullets. A fe-mullet (a mullet on a woman) was worth double points. It never occurred to me to photograph my adventure. It’s so on my list now!

Cassie, I’m just catching up with House of Owls tonight. I got so far behind that I’m reading everyone in great breathless gulps, and tonight I’m gulping down your beautiful images. I’m leaving my comment on this post instead of the most recent one ’cause I wanted to bookmark it. I’m definitely going to take my camera out on a few of these dates this year, although I haven’t got a prayer of taking all 100. I struggle with the camera, not just ’cause it’s new, but because I’m a word girl and communicating through image is a whole new language for me.

Tonight my husband and I sprawled in bed with a laptop bearing witness to your images, pausing here and there, just breathing them in. It was a wonderful way to end the day for him. And for me: your vision is inspiring. Thank you for always giving your best.

Hi Cassie, I’m a new Goddess and very interested in learning about the Artist’s Way group, circle or whatever it is! I couldn’t find it on the Circles page, is it somewhere else? Thanks! BTW, Love this list – reminds me that it’s been a while since I had a good photo date!

    • Cassie 27. Jan, 2011 at 5:35 pm #

Hello there, Jeanne! If you check out the Main board over at the Circle, there’s a regularly updated thread near the top of the page corresponding with the week we’re currently participating in. It should say something like TAW Week 4. See ya there!
